Product Description
The Cambridge EPW-16-4 is an active emitter and part of the QtPro series. These emitters are specially designed ceiling loudspeakers for use in a sound masking system. In combination with the Qt controllers it’s possible to produce sound masking, play background music, or make announcements. The sound masking system provides better privacy and improves concentration in a room by reducing the speech intelligibility among each other, through the addition of sound or noise to the speech frequency area.
Simple and Unobtrusive Installation
Installing the compact EPW-16-4 emitters is fairly easy. With the controller, a hole saw is included, for installing the emitters into the ceiling. The emitter can be placed inside the hole in the ceiling and then be attached using the included locking ring. This ring can be screwed on in different thicknesses, so the emitter can be installed in all kinds of material. The EPW-16-4 is white and has a flat grille with a diameter of only 8,3 centimetres. Because of this, the emitter is barely noticeable in a white ceiling.
Alternative Attaching Options
When fitting inside the ceiling isn’t possible or wanted, with the universal white UB-W mounting brackets of Cambridge, the Qt EPW-16-4 emitters can be fastened onto ceilings of all sorts of material. Using the white BB-W, the emitters can be attached to beams. Cambridge also offers the PBC back can, to comply with certain fire safety demands. These are installed to the back of the emitter, behind the ceiling.
Product Specifications
The EPW-16-4 emitter has a 3,17 centimetre driver and an opening angle of 170°. Four individual audio channels make for equal sound masking. The four audio channels also prevent any phase differences. On the backside of the emitter, dip switches are located. With these, the volume can be reduced in steps of 3 dB with a maximum of 9 dB. Two RJ45 connectors are also situated on the back of the emitters, one input and one output. Because the emitters can be connected with Cat cables, they are very easy to set up. The QtPro series offers a variety of emitters, passive and active, each available in white and black. The emitters come with 16 or 30 feet (respectively 4,9 or 9,1 meters) of wiring. Part of their name is giving to the Qt emitters thanks to the amount of feet of wiring that is included.
Suitable for Various Sizes Sound Masking Systems
The Cambridge Qt emitters can be used in small, medium sized and large open and closed spaces. The EPW-16-4 can be applied to, among others, waiting rooms of hospitals, exam halls in schools, pharmacy counters, banks, court yards, libraries, bullpens in call centres and meeting rooms.
Suitable for Open and Closed Spaces
In combination with a Qt 100 controller, a space of up to 1,115 square meters, existing of one zone, can be supplied with sound masking and with the Qt 300, 3,345 square meters and a maximum of three zones. The combination with the Qt 600 controller can even supply up to 6,689 square meters and a maximum of six zones with sound masking. Tau makes a technical design for the wanted situation, based on the environmental values of said room, like the length, width and height of the space and the layout plan. With this, the needed amount of emitters is calculated and the right placing of them is mapped, thus providing the maximum effect and an equal coverage. Sound masking is also possible in a closed space, to prevent a conversation from being audible from outside that room. This too, can be established with the Cambridge Qt controllers. The sound masking will be active at all times then, though. Rather use a system that’s only active when needed? For this, the black Qt-CRE or the white Qt-HCE of Cambridge can be used. These are complete sets of one controller, eight emitters, two indication signs, which light up when the system is active, and of course the required wiring.
