Audio-Technica BP880R

Contact Microphone

The waterproof BP880R contact microphone is ideal for sports broadcasters, filmmakers, and other audio specialists eager to enhance their productions with special sound effects. Built to pick up the impact and surface vibrations created by skaters, skiers, swimmers, and other athletes, the BP880R is the perfect tool for immersing home viewers in all the action. It’s also an excellent choice for applications beyond sports, such as capturing foley sound effects for film and video projects or picking up audio details during theater performances. Because the microphone only picks up impacts and vibrations it has very little sensitivity to airborne sound waves. Therefore, it naturally provides sound effects without ambient noise.

The phantom-powered BP880R features a high-sensitivity piezoelectric sensor and internal preamplifier, enabling it to transmit clear signals over long cable runs: Since the microphone’s fixed 20 m (65.6') cable has a low-impedance output, it can be extended to greater lengths using balanced cables.

Housed in a low-profile, dezincification-resistant (DZR) brass body coated to prevent corrosion from chlorinated water, and outfitted with a waterproof cable, the BP880R is designed to withstand daily use and abuse in harsh broadcast environments. The mic can be submerged in water and ice,* buried underground, installed in flooring, or attached to foul poles or other objects in the field of play. The weatherproof body has four through holes for mounting with screws and nuts or with zip ties, and a 1/4" threaded hole for mounting with a single screw.

The BP880R offers professional broadcasters and filmmakers a way to differentiate their productions from the crowd, delivering high-quality, immersive sound effects that make their audiences feel part of the action.

* Waterproof performance equivalent to IPX7 standards.
